October 24, 2015 | Women's Golf
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team jumped two spots in the second day of play at the Landfall Tradition. Junior Leslie Cloots finished play today as the top Tar Heel when she moved up 15 spots in the player leaderboard with a 2-over 74.
"We saw more confidence in the team along with better course management. A couple of the tough par 3's cost us again today," said head coach Jan Mann. "Hoping to improve on them tomorrow and move up the leaderboard."
The Tar Heels improved to 15th in round two with a 35-over 611. Cloots, of Antwerp, Belgium, fired a 2-over-par on day two, moving her up to a tie for 38th with a 7-over 151. Freshman Kelly Whaley and sophomore Bryana Nguyen ended the second day with a 10-over 154 in a tie for 54th. Whaley, a native of Farmington, Conn., carded a 4-over 76 in today's round, while Nguyen, from Columbia, Md., carded a close 5-over 77. Elizabeth Mallett, a senior from Sutton Coldfield, England, registered a 7-over 79 on the day for an 11-over 155. Mallett is tied for 60th place. Only two strokes behind, sophomore Lexi Harkins stands approaches the final day of play with a 13-over 157 in a tie for 72nd place. Harkins, a native of Crystal Lake, Ill., scored a 4-over 76 after she fired an even-par on the back nine. The team also registered sophomore Rachel Jones as an individual.
