BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team concluded the first round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in 13th. The team finished 28-over-par, 316 on the day.

“It was extremely windy today with winds of 15-25mph,” head coach Jan Mann said. “ Our entire team's ball flight is high, so the wind really affected us. We need to do a better job of adjusting and hitting knock down shots in those type of conditions. Tomorrow looks like it is going to be calm so hopefully we will have a better day. We are confident will be moving up the leaderboard tomorrow.”

The course proved challenging, not just for the Tar Heels. Not a single team was under par after the first round.

Lexi Harkins led the Tar Heels with a 5-over 77. Leslie Cloots and Bryana Nguyen both shot 7-over 79s on Sunday. Kelly Whaley and Elizabeth Mallett posted 9-over 81s to round out the scoring five. The Tar Heels carded five birdies altogether, but too many extra strokes caused the team to end up at 28-over-par.

Duke leads the tournament at 5-over-par while Arkansas sits in second at 11-over-par. Tennessee is 14-over in third. Tulane and LSU are tied for fourth at 17-over-par.

Celine Boutier from Duke found her groove today as the only golfer under par. Her 67 leads the tournament. Tied for second are Blakesly Warren of Tennessee, Ji Eun Baik from Mississippi State and Kayla Thompson from UNCW at even par. Tied for fifth is Cara Gorlei from Arkansas, Sarah Bae from NC State and Cylia Damerau from Kentucky at 1-over-par.
