UNC Lacrosse Raises Over $32,000 for Vs. Cancer
November 10, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
Last Saturday marked the third year that the UNC men's lacrosse and UNC baseball teams helped with the fight against childhood cancer, joining forces with the Vs. Cancer Foundation. All proceeds went to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The fundraisers will last throughout the season, but the teams celebrated their efforts on Saturday, November 7 when the players shaved their heads at 10 a.m. in the Tar Heel men's lacrosse locker room.
After the endeavor the UNC men's lacrosse team presented a check for $32,441 to the VS Cancer Foundation.
With the strong tie between UNC athletics and the Vs. Cancer Foundation, the UNC men's lacrosse team, led by coach Joe Breschi, quickly got involved with the charity. “We are thrilled to once again team up with Chase Jones and the Vs. Cancer foundation to help cure childhood cancer,” Coach Breschi said.
“The student-athletes in our men's lacrosse program have raised nearly $72,000 in the last three years to help make a positive impact on children who are battling this serious disease. Our young men have a tremendous platform to help make a difference in kids' lives and they are passionate about this wonderful cause and foundation. It was a great day to be Tar Heel athlete for kids!”
Vs. Cancer has worked with hundreds of athletes, teams and communities nationwide to fund the comprehensive spectrum of the pediatric cancer battle: from research initiatives across the country to healing programs within local children's hospitals.
