Carolina Closes Fall Racing At Head Of The Hooch

With solid performances from all of its boats, the UNC rowing team closed out its fall season on Saturday with a day of racing at the Head of the Chattahoochee Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Tar Heels raced a total of eight boats in three events, and their top finishes were eighth in the Championship 8+, third in the College & Club Novice 8+ and seventh in Championship 4+.
“I was proud of how we handled the competition,” UNC coach Sarah Haney said. “We have spent more time in fours than eights this fall and you can see that in our fours performance, which gives us even more confidence in our eights for the spring.”
The varsity eights went off just after 11 a.m. in the Championship 8+ event, which included a field of 22. UNC's varsity eight was eighth in a time of 17:02.4, and the second varsity eight was 13th in 17:26.1. For full results click here.
At 2:29, it was the novices' turn, and Carolina fielded two boats in the College & Club Novice 8+ event. In a field of 45 boats, UNC took third in 17:31.2 and sixth in 18:07.2. For full results, click here.
Ninety minutes later, the Championship 4+ race wrapped up the day for the Tar Heels. UNC boats took seventh (18:00.9), ninth (18:04.5), 17th (18:50.0) and 18th (18:51.8) in a field of 26. Full results are here.
