Women Golfers 16th At Northrop Grumman

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CALIF. – The North Carolina women's golf team remains in 16th place going into the final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. Carolina shot a 307 in the second round for a 617 total. Sophomore Leslie Cloots led the Tar Heels on Monday as she fired a 2-over-par 73 at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Cloots' round of 73 consisted of three birdies and five bogeys. The native of Antwerp, Belgium, is tied for 30th place at 8-over 150. Senior Maia Schechter, from Takoma Park, Md., carded a 6-over 77 in the second round. She stands tied for 66th with a 13-over 155 total. Elizabeth Mallett, a junior from Sutton Coldfield, England, is two strokes back tied for 74th at 15-over 157 after shooting an 8-over 79 on Monday.
A pair of freshmen, Lexi Harkins and Bryana Nguyen, round out the Tar Heel lineup. Harkins, from Crystal Lake, Ill., is tied for 76th at 16-over 158 after shooting an 81 while Nguyen, from Columbia, Md., shot a 7-over 78 for a 17-over 159 total and is tied for 78th.
Baylor, once again, had the low team round, a 5-over 289, for a 2-over 570 total, nine strokes ahead of second-place Southern California which sits at 579. Arizona State is in third place with a 16-over 584 while Arizona is fourth at 588 and Florida and Oklahoma State are another stroke back in a tie for fifth place at 589.
Bronte Law of UCLA and Hayley Davis of Baylor are tied for the individual lead at 5-under 137. Law fired a 2-under 69 in the second round while Davis carded a 3-under 68. Monica Vaughn of Arizona State and Amy Lee of Southern California are three strokes behind the co-leaders at 2-under 140. Ying Luo of Washington is alone in fifth place at even par 142 while four players are tied for sixth at 1-over 143 – Pepperdine's Marissa Chow, Arizona's Krystal Quihuis, Baylor's Dylan Kim and Arizona State's Roberta Liti.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at Palos Verdes Golf Club which features a par 71, 6,017-yard layout. There will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30. Live scoring is available on GoHeels.com.
