Men's Soccer Lands Four On ACC Academic Team
February 17, 2015 | Men's Soccer, Academics
Graduate Rob Lovejoy and junior Jonathan Campbell claimed their third career league academic accolade, while Craven and freshman Alan Winn were named for the first time.
Craven and Lovejoy both completed their collegiate careers this past fall, graduated from Carolina in December and were drafted in the MLS SuperDraft last month.
A St. Simon Island, Ga. native, Craven was selected with the 48th overall pick in the third round by Seattle Sounders FC. He led all of Division I soccer in 2014 with 35 total points and eight game-winning goals, while his 15 goals tied him for the national lead.
Lovejoy, from Greensboro, was taken by the Houston Dynamo with the 36th overall pick in the second round. A third-team All-ACC selection in 2014, Lovejoy ranked third in the ACC with eight assists, a number that ranked him 14th nationally. He was previously named to the all-academic team in 2011 and 2012.
Campbell, who also hails from Greensboro, earns his third-consecutive nod on the league's academic team. He was named a first team Academic All-America back in November. Campbell carries a 3.94 grade-point-average as a business administration major.
A Dean's List selection every semester during his time in Chapel Hill, Campbell started 15 games in his junior campaign, earning third team All-ACC honors.
From Garland, Texas, Winn is an exercise and sports science major that landed on the ACC All-Academic Team in his first season with the Tar Heels. The rookie forward earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman team in 2014 by way of scoring three goals and four assists in 20 matches.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
