Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game Notes
• Carolina will play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game for the second time in 2016. UNC's last appearance was a 30-24 loss to LSU in 2010. Carolina, Virginia Tech and Carolina are the only ACC teams to play in the game twice.
• For the fourth time in the last seven years and third time in the last four years, Carolina will begin the year against an SEC team – 2010 vs. LSU in Atlanta, 2013 vs. South Carolina in Columbia, 2015 vs. South Carolina in Charlotte, 2016 vs. Georgia in Atlanta.
Carolina vs. Georgia Series Notes
• Carolina and Georgia have met 30 times with the Bulldogs holding a 16-12-2 advantage. The first seven games of the series came were played at neutral sites in Atlanta, Macon and Raleigh (once in 1900). The two teams were original members of the Southern Conference in 1921.
• The 2016 meeting will be the first between the two teams in 44 years. The last meeting was a 7-3 Georgia victory in the 1971 Gator Bowl. That game was a battle of the Dooley brothers, pitting UGA's Vince Dooley vs. UNC's Bill Dooley.
• Carolina's last win over UGA came in 1963 (28-7). The 1963 team went on to win the ACC and play in the Gator Bowl.
• The 2016 game will be the seventh meeting between the two institutions in Atlanta, but first since 1914.
• From 1946 to 1971, the Tar Heels and Bulldogs played 15 times, including nine times from 1946-56.
• The first bowl game in Carolina history was against Georgia in 1947 with the Bulldogs scoring a 20-10 victory in New Orleans. The game featured a pair of great running backs in UNC freshman Charlie “Choo-Choo” Justice and Georgia senior Charlie Trippi.
•In 1895, Carolina played four games in the span of six days, including two games against Georgia. UNC beat the Bulldogs 6-0 in Atlanta on Oct. 26, traveled to Nashville for a victory over Vanderbilt on Oct. 28, followed by a tie at Sewanee on Oct. 29, and finally another win over UGA on Oct. 31 in Atlanta by a score of 10-6.
