Tar Heels To Compete in NCAA Regional Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ? On Monday, the NCAA announced the 2015 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships regional selections. Three Tar Heel gymnasts were selected to compete in the meet and three were selected as alternates.
Morgan Lane?and Haley Watts were selected to compete in the all-around competition for the Tar Heels. Watts suffered a season-ending knee injury in the eighth meet of the season, but qualified based on her RQS. ?She will be replaced in the all-around individual competition by Lexi Cappalli, who originally made the competition as an alternate on all-around and floor exercise. Lane has a season-best of 39.275 in the all-around, which she scored at NC State on Fri., Feb. 20.?
In addition, freshman?Kaitlynn Hedelund will compete on the uneven bars. Hedelund notched her season-best of 9.875 at Towson on Sun., Jan. 25.
Sarah Peterson was selected as an alternate on vault and Lindsey Lemke was picked as an alternate on the uneven bars. ?
The top two all-around competitors from the regional meet will receive an automatic berth to the national championship on April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas. The event winners at the competition will advance to the national championship meet if they are not of the same team as an all-around qualifier.
The gymnasts will compete in the regional meet at Auburn on Sat., April 4. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET in Auburn Arena.
