Nine Tar Heels Earn Field Hockey Academic Honor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Nine North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The honor recognizes field hockey student-athletes who had earned a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better through the fall 2014 semester.
Tar Heels honored were Kristy Bernatchez, Rachel Black, Emma Bozek, Casey Di Nardo, Blissie Du Bose, Sam Night, Tyler Powell, Loren Shealy and Emily Wold.
Shealy, a senior from Charlotte who is majoring in business administration, earned the honor for the fourth time. She also was a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, an honor that requires a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or better.
Bozek is a junior from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., who is majoring in business administration. Di Nardo is a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., who is majoring in journalism and mass communication. Wold is a junior from Freehold, N.J., who is majoring in communication studies.
Black and Powell are juniors academically and sophomores in eligibility, each having taken a redshirt season. Black, from Clemmons, N.C., is majoring in biology. Powell, from Cary, N.C., is majoring in business administration.
Bernatchez, Du Bose and Night are sophomores academically. Bernatchez is from Belgrade, Maine, and majoring in exercise and sport science. Du Bose is a journalism major from Charlottesville, Va. Night is a public policy major from Houston, Texas.
The honor is the first for Bernatchez, the second for Du Bose and Night, and the third for Black, Bozek, Di Nardo, Powell and Wold.
