March 31, 2015 | Football
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina will conduct an open spring football scrimmage on Saturday, April 11, at Rocky River High School in Charlotte at 1 p.m.
The event is free of charge. Concessions and food trucks will be set up in the parking lot outside the main entrance to the stadium beginning at 11:30 a.m. Chapel Hill Sportswear will be on site with all the latest Carolina merchandise available for purchase.
"The Charlotte scrimmage is great opportunity to bring our program to another part of the state," says head coach Larry Fedora. "Our fans have the chance to experience how we practice and how we prepare for the upcoming season.”
The Aprill 11 scrimmage is the last of 15 spring practices for the Tar Heels, who open the 2015 season against South Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
Several Tar Heels hail from Charlotte and the surrounding area, including DB Ben Craig, LB Cayson Collins, P Corbin Daly, CB Kedrick Davis, DT Ian Dibble, DT Robert Dinkins, TB Elijah Hood, WR Thomas Jackson, CB Des Lawrence, DS Kyle Murphy, LB Kemmi Pettway, WR Austin Proehl, QB Anthony Ratliff-Williams, OT Bentley Spain, OG Jonathan Trull, TE Carl Tucker, OG Mark Uptegraff, OG Mason Veal, CB Brian Walker and QB Marquise Williams.
Carolina will not have a traditional Spring Game in Chapel Hill due to ongoing repairs to the Kenan Stadium playing surface. UNC is replacing an aging storm water drain pipe, which is located under the field and extends from one end zone to the other.
A new grass playing surface is being installed at Kenan Stadium in time for UNC's spring commencement ceremony in May.
