Carolina Travels To USC Upstate Tuesday
March 9, 2015 | Softball
North Carolina will take their 10 game win streak on the road to USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. on Tuesday.
The Tar Heels have not lost since a Valentine's Day showdown at South Carolina where they fell 6-3 to the Gamecocks.
Since that loss, Aquilla Mateen, Amber Parrish, Lauren Walker, and Taylor Wike are all hitting above .400. This past week Parrish smashed five home runs in wins over Virginia Tech, Texas, and Fairleigh Dickinson. Freshmen pitchers Kaylee Carlson and Sydney Matzko seem to have shaken off whatever first year jitters there might have been and have combined for eight of the last 10 Carolina wins. Carlson has struck out 19 batters over the span and Matzko 14.
Scouting The Spartans
The USC Upstate Spartans bring a seven game win streak of their own into Tuesday's contest. They are 12-2 on the year, losing one run games to Elon and Bryant.
The Spartans won the Atlantic-Sun regular season title in 2014 and went to the NCAA Tournament the past two years.
Carolina dropped a 1-0 decision to USC Upstate in 2014.
