Carolina Receives Athens Regional Bid

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina will face Western Kentucky in the Athens regional this Friday in the first round of regional play as the Tar Heels enter NCAA Tournament play for the 12th time in 15 years.
The no. 14 seed Georgia Bulldogs will play Central Connecticut State. The Tar Heels upset Georgia earlier this season 15-9.
The 2015 NCAA Division I Softball Championship begins Friday with four-team, double-elimination play at 16 regional sites. The regional winners will advance to super regional competition for a best-of-three series May 21-24 at eight campus sites. The remaining eight teams will advance to the Women's College World Series, a double-elimination tournament May 28-June 3 at the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Carolina (36-14) made it to the semifinals of the ACC Softball Championship this past week. A record seven ACC squads will advance to the NCAA tournament: Florida State, NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Louisville, Pittsburgh and Notre Dame.
