Moss Named To All-ACC Academic Team
June 29, 2015 | Baseball, Academics
GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior pitcher Benton Moss was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in his career, Commissioner John Swofford announced Monday. Moss, who graduated in May and recently started his professional career after being drafted in the sixth round by Tampa Bay, was also named to the All-ACC third team as a starting pitcher after going 7-1 with a 3.44 ERA in 13 starts as a senior.
A business administration and economics double major, Moss attended UNC on a Morehead-Cain Scholarship, the University's most prestigious academic grant. As a senior, he received the Jim Tatum Memorial Award, a University honor awarded annually to one varsity student-athlete who has excelled athletically while also contributing to UNC through extracurricular involvement. He also earned the ACC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and the Top 10 Scholar-Athlete Award.
Earlier this year, Moss became the first Tar Heel baseball player to earn first-team Capital One Academic All-America honors.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
