July 16, 2015 | Women's Golf
PINEHURST, N.C. – Bryana Nguyen participated in the North and South Women's Amateur in Pinehurst, NC. After three rounds of qualifying on Course #2, she missed playing in the round of 16 match play by one shot.
Nguyen, a rising sophomore on the women's golf team, finished round one at 9-over-par 79, but fought back the last two days to combine for 9-over 149. In her final round, Nguyen got off to a slow start bogeying five of the first seven holes. On the par-4 eighth she knocked in a birdie to gain some confidence back. After making the turn Nguyen eagled the par-5 10th – one of two players to eagle No. 10 throughout the tournament – to get back to two-over. But two bogeys on 11 and 14 gave Nguyen the four-over 74. Nguyen finished tied for 17th out of 93 participants.
The Pinehurst North & South Amateur is in its 113th year. The tournament features the exquisite Pinehurst No. 2 course with a par-70, 6,300-yard layout. The first three days are stroke play with the top-16 participants making it to match play.
Nguyen just finished her freshman campaign and was second on the team with a 75.60 stroke average. She carded two under-par rounds and two even par rounds during the fall and springs seasons.
