UNC Ninth After Round One In Georgia

The University of North Carolina men's golf team opened the 2015-16 season with an 11-over-par 299 and is tied for ninth place after the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
The tournament is being played at the Farm Golf Club, a 7,012-yard, par-72 layout. UNC is one of eight teams in the field of 15 that is ranked in Golfweek's preseason Top 30 that also includes ACC rivals Clemson and Georgia Tech and defending NCAA champion LSU.
Freshman Joshua Martin was 1-under-par on the back nine and led the Tar Heels with a 1-over 73. Martin is tied for 17th place.
Carter Jenkins and Ben Griffin each shot 74 and Henry Do shot a 78. Freshman Preyer Fountain finished with an 84.
Jenkins, a junior from Raleigh, led Carolina with six birdies. Round two is Saturday and the 54-hole event concludes on Sunday.
Georgia Tech was the only team to finish under par with a 2-under 286. Alabama and South Carolina are tied for second at 289, LSU is fourth at 291 and Auburn is fifth at 293.
The Yellow Jackets' Jacob Joiner led the field with a 6-under 66.
