October 29, 2016 | Field Hockey
NORFOLK, Va. – The fifth-ranked North Carolina field hockey team got second-half goals from redshirt freshman Marissa Creatore and senior Lauren Moyer en route to a 2-0 win at Old Dominion Saturday afternoon. Playing at L.R. Hill Sports Complex, the Tar Heels improved to 14-4 on the season with just one regular-season game remaining. ODU fell to 7-10.
“It was great to get a win and shutout at Old Dominion,” UNC coach Karen Shelton said. “That's always a special game for us because of the traditional rivalry we have with ODU. I feel good about the way we played – we moved the ball well and got good attack opportunities.”
UNC is back in action Sunday with a home game against Appalachian State at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The Tar Heels will celebrate Senior Day, honoring eight players before their final regular-season appearances at Henry Stadium.
Game time is 1 p.m. and there is no charge for admission. The first 200 students get free pizza.
Saturday at ODU, the Tar Heels totaled six shots in the first half but couldn't get past goalkeeper Kealsie Robles, who had four saves before halftime and seven on the day.
UNC's gamewinner came on a penalty corner 10 minutes into the second half. Creatore had the goal, her fourth of the fall, assisted by senior Emma Bozek.
Moyer's goal, her team-high 15th of the season, came in the 55th minute of play.
UNC finished with 18 shots to ODU's two and nine penalty corners to one by Old Dominion.
