Andrzejewski Tapped As ACC Freshman of the Year
November 3, 2016 | Women's Soccer
North Carolina's Bridgette Andrzejewski (Lutherville, Md.) is the Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer freshman of the year as announced Thursday. The award was based on a vote of the league's coaches.
North Carolina's Andrzejewski is tied for eighth among ACC scorers with 19 points (nine goals, one assist) while leading the 12-3-3 Tar Heels in both goals and points. The Lutherville, Maryland, freshman and stellar forward enters this Friday's ACC Championship semifinals as The Tar Heels leading scorer and ranks sixth in the conference in goals per game (0.50).
Andrzejewski was also named first-team All-ACC and she was tapped for the ACC All-Freshman Team. Andrzejewski was the only non-senior to be named to the conference's first-team squad.
She is the second Tar Heel in three years to be named the league's freshman of the year. Megan Buckingham won the award in 2014. On Thursday, Buckingham was named second-team All-ACC for 2016. She has had a terrific year, starting all 18 games as UNC's left midfielder. She is tied for second on the team with four goals and she ranks third with 11 points.
The ACC Women's Soccer Championship continues this weekend with the semifinals and finals being played at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. Fourth-seeded North Carolina will face top-seeded Notre Dame in the first semifinal on Friday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m., while No. 6 Florida State meets No. 2 Clemson in the second semifinal at 8 p.m. Both games will be carried by ACC Network Extra. The winners will meet Sunday, Nov. 6 at Noon in the Championship game, which will be broadcast on ESPNU.
