CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Seven Carolina football student-athletes – John Ferranto, Khris Francis, Jon Heck, Joey Mangili, Dan Mastromatteo, Caleb Peterson and Ryan Switzer – took part in winter commencement on Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Smith Center.
"I'm proud of the work these guys have done both on and off the field during their careers," said head coach Larry Fedora. "This is an important day in their lives and I know they have a bright future after what they've acheived at Carolina."
Heck, Peterson, and Switzer all started more than 30 games at UNC. An offensive tackle from Jacksonville, Fla., Heck is poised to make his 50th career start when the Tar Heels take on Stanford in the Hyundai Sun Bowl on Dec. 30.
Peterson started 42 career games at offensive guard, including the first five of this year before a back injury ended his season.
Switzer, one of just eight players in UNC history to earn first-team All-America honors on two occasions, is Carolina's all-time leader in receptions and is just 18 yards shy of the school record for receiving yards.
