Tar Heels Conclude Iowa State Classic

AMES, IOWA – The University of North Carolina track and field teams concluded the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. The teams showed
RJ Alowonle ran 47.24 in the men's 400 to take first overall in the non masters section and set a personal best along the way. He narrowly edged out second place by 0.01 seconds. Alowonle's time ranks third overall in the ACC this year.
Sarah Howard threw 53-1 ¾ (16.20 meters) in the women's shot put to take third overall. Howard was competing against the nation's best shot throwers in the competition.
Alexis Gannon finished third in the women's triple jump.
The men's 4x400 of Alowonle, Kenny Selmon, Daniel Belk and Cory Nicholls finished fourth at 3:13.62.
Amanda Benninghoff and Anna Eaton had strong showings in the women's pole vault. Both women cleared 13-3 ½ (4.05 meters). Both were season-bests for the two women.
Kedrick Davis ran 6.84 in the men's 60-meter dash to finish seventh overall.
Lizzy Whelan took ninth in the women's 800 at 2:08.03.
UP NEXT
The Tar Heels will compete again at the UCS Invite and Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, February 20. The Tar Heel will return home for the Kent Taylor Invite on Sunday, February 21 to wrap up the weekend before the ACC Championships on February 25-27.
