February 25, 2016 | Men's Soccer
The Kirk Urso Memorial Match features the Tar Heels taking on Charlotte in a rematch of the 2011 NCAA National Championship match. Urso, the 2011 team captain, led his Carolina squad to the title in his final collegiate match.
Tickets to the Kirk Urso Memorial Match on April 9 are priced at $5. The admission price allows fans access to four games that day featuring High Point vs. Appalachian State at 12 p.m., UNCG vs. Campbell at 2:30 p.m., Wake Forest vs. Elon at 5 p.m. and North Carolina vs. Charlotte at 7:30 p.m.
A 2012 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Urso made four consecutive NCAA Men's College Cup appearances. He was selected by the Columbus Crew in the first round (No. 10 overall) of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. After appearing in six games for the Crew in 2012 before being sidelined by injury, Urso passed away suddenly at the age of 22 from an Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy on August 5, 2012.
Since then the Crew Soccer Foundation created the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund. In partnership with The Children's Heart Foundation, the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund sponsors an annual grant focused on the prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of cardiac heart defects and sudden cardiac death in youth.
A portion of all ticket sales, donations, merchandise sales, raffle and silent auction will go directly to the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund. Further details on auction items will be announced at a later date.
