Tar Heels In The Super Bowl
February 4, 2016 | Football
• Super Bowl 50 marks the fifth time Carolina has had players on both teams in the game. Tre Boston is a safety for the Panthers and Sylvester Williams is a defensive tackle for the Broncos.
• Williams is making his second appearance in the Super Bowl in just his third season in the NFL.
• Boston has been at his best in the postseason this year, registering three tackles, a sack and an interception.
• Boston was a four-year starter for the Tar Heels from 2010-13 and played three seasons under current head coach Larry Fedora. For his career, he posted 282 tackles, eight tackles for loss and picked off 13 passes, which ranks third in UNC history. Boston was a second-team All-ACC selection as a senior.
• A starter at defensive tackle, Williams finished the regular season with 25 tackles and three sacks.
• Williams, who came from humble beginnings buidling radiators for large trucks at Modine Manufacturing Company in Jefferson City, Mo., has started every game for the NFL's No. 1 ranked defense. At UNC, he was a first-team all-conference pick and a 2012 Pro Football Weekly All-America. He was the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
