North Carolina (14-2, 4-0 ACC) is tied with Duke at the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with a perfect 4-0 record. Wake Forest has enjoyed a good season as well with a 12-2 overall mark and a 2-1 slate in the ACC.
Tar Heel junior Hayley Carter reached a new pinnacle in Carolina women's tennis earlier this week by becoming the first player in program history ranked No. 1 in both singles and doubles simultaneously by the Oracle/ITA Rankings, released on Tuesday.
Carter earns her first career No. 1 ranking in singles, while she and senior Whitney Kay have held the top doubles spot going back to Feb. 10.
The last player ranked No. 1 in both at the same time was Stanford's Nicole Gibbs in 2012.
Kay checks in at No. 29 in singles this week, while freshman Jessie Aney moves up to No. 48, her best ranking to date.
Aney and senior Kate Vialle are No. 51 in doubles.
For the Demon Deacons, junior Kimmy Guerin is the lone ranked player at No. 50 in singles.
Carolina heads to Puerto Rico during UNC's spring break next week. The Tar Heels are scheduled to face Dennison University and Navy on Tuesday, March 15 at 9 a.m., and 3 p.m., respectively.
UNC's next match in Chapel Hill is against Notre Dame on Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m.
