No. 6 Carolina Opens ACC Play With Pitt

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 6 North Carolina opens Atlantic Coast Conference play with the first of a three game series with divisional foe Pittsburgh Friday at 3 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium. Carolina is 10-1 on the year and has won nine straight games after taking a midweek win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. Pitt is 6-4 after being swept in a three-game road series at New Orleans over the weekend. The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m. with the finale scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1. Both the Saturday and Sunday contests will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

NORTH CAROLINA-PITTSBURGH SERIES HISTORY
• Carolina is 3-3 all-time against Pittsburgh, with all six games coming in the last two seasons.
• Friday begins just the third series between Carolina and Pitt in the two programs' collective history. The two schools had never met in baseball prior to the 2014 season, Pitt's first in the ACC.
• Pitt scored a series win over the Tar Heels last season in Pittsburgh. The Panthers won a slugfest 12-9 in the opener before Carolina took the middle game 3-1. Pitt secured the series win with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings in the Sunday finale.
• Carolina took two of three in 2014 in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels took both games of a doubleheader from the Panthers before Pitt won the series finale 6-4.
