UNC Slides To 6th Heading Into Final Round of ACCs

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team shot a 12-over par 300 at the ACC Championship on Saturday. The team is 22-over par for the tournament and is in sixth place heading into the final round.
“Sedgefield is such a great golf course and is in excellent condition,” head coach Jan Mann said. “It calls for demanding shots into the greens and precise putting. The team is so close to posting a very good round. If they play tomorrow with unwavering confidence and toughness, they will do very well.”
The low Tar Heel on the day was Leslie Cloots who shot 1-over par 73. Cloots had four birdies, three bogeys and one double-bogey. She's tied for 14th overall at 4-over par. Also tied for 14th overall is Kelly Whaley who finished the day at 2-over par. Whaley had two birdies and two bogeys along with a double-bogey. Senior Elizabeth Mallett shot 4-over par and is 5-over par for the tournament. She's tied for 19th. Lexi Harkins was 5-over par on the day, but she was the only competitor in the field to eagle the par-5 No. 18 hole. Harkins is tied for 39th at 10-over par. Bryana Nguyen shot 7-over par and is tied for 43rd at 11-over par.
Virginia holds a six-stroke lead over Wake Forest in the team competition. Duke is in third at 14-over par while NC State sits at 18-over. Clemson is in fifth at 21-over par.
Virginia's Lauren Coughlin leads all individuals at 7-under par. Jennifer Kupcho from Wake Forest is in second at 4-under par. Lauren Diaz-Yi of Virginia is in third at 3-under par. In fourth is Sierra Sims of Wake Forest at 2-under par.
The Sedgefield Country Club features a par 72, 6,089-yard layout. Live results for the ACC Championship can be found at Golfstat.com or at the ACC Women's Golf Championship homepage. ESPN3 will have live coverage of the tournament on April 17 starting at 1 p.m.
The Tar Heels are set to tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. off hole No. 1.
