I'm A Tar Heel: Elizabeth Mallett
April 6, 2016 | Women's Golf
Dear fellow Tar Heels,
When I first committed to Carolina I didn't know very much about the school. I hadn't even visited and I had probably spoken to Coach Jan Mann a total of three times over the phone. But, when I was at home in Sutton Coldfield, England, considering whether to accept the offer to attend The University of North Carolina, I had a voice inside my head telling me that Carolina was going to be the right place for me. After four years, I can honestly say that deciding to attend UNC was the best decision that I could have ever made. My experience has surpassed every expectation I could have had. I now know and believe that the Carolina people and Tar Heel community are really special.
My time at Carolina has been incredible. I have been blessed with amazing athletic and academic opportunities that would not be attainable anywhere else. Without the backing from the Rams Club and support from donors none of this would be possible. Our women's golf team donors are like no other. They support our team in so many ways. Getting to know and spend time with them has led to friendships that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I am so thankful for the unforgettable experiences I have had at UNC and am forever grateful for those who made it possible.
I would like to thank my coaches and all of the teammates that I have had throughout the last four years. For those of you who follow the team, you'll know that it is made up of golfers from so many different backgrounds and cultures and I personally have the pleasure of playing alongside them. We sweat together at 7 a.m. workouts, sing together on long van rides and the bond between us is like no other. I have learned so much from spending time with each and every one of them. Playing alongside them in Carolina Blue week-in and week-out has been so much fun and I'm going to miss it.
Finally, I would also like to thank the unsung heroes here at Carolina: the phenomenal athletic training staff for always getting us tournament ready, the academic advisors who keep us all on track to achieving a 4.0 GPA, and the amazing staff that we have at Finley Golf Course for taking extremely good care of us all of the time. I really appreciate what you have done for me during the time that I have been here.
In the past four years I have completely fallen in love with Carolina, from the late night study sessions in Davis Library to listening to the Bell Tower chime as I walk through the quad. I have had an amazing time and I will always cherish the memories that I have made here. It has truly been a privilege and honor to play for Coach Mann at the greatest university in the world.
Thank you.
GO HEELS!!!!
Elizabeth Mallett – Forever a Tar Heel.
