Carolina Remains in Ninth at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of North Carolina women's golf team continued its inspiring season by advancing to the fourth round of stroke play at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The Tar Heels shot 3-over par 291 on Sunday to move into the top 15 teams.

“I'm very excited for this team to advance,” head coach Jan Mann said. “Their hard work is paying off just at the right time. Everyone has contributed throughout the week. Congratulations to Lexi for a great round today. We're going out tomorrow to have the best round of the day.”

Lexi Harkins had a collegiate best round to lead the Tar Heels on Sunday. Harkins went 4-under par 68 in the third round with five birdies to just one bogey. Harkins rode the birdie train for three straight holes on Nos. 15-17. Harkins is 2-over for the tournament and tied for 27th. Leslie Cloots and Elizabeth Mallett each posted even par rounds. Mallett had four birdies and Cloots had five birdies. Mallett is tied with Harkins at 2-over for the tournament while Cloots is tied for 70th at 6-over par. Bryana Nguyen posted a 7-over par performance to round out the Tar Heel scorers. Kelly Whaley shot 8-over par. In total the team shot 20 birdies in the round.

Carolina is tied for 12th and needs to move into the top eight teams to qualify for match play. Currently in eighth is Arizona at 9-over par for the tournament. Carolina is 17-over par.

Carolina will continue tomorrow with the fourth round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships. Live results can be found on Golfstat.com as well as the ncaa.com. Golf Channel will air the fourth round of stroke play starting at 7 p.m.
