August 4, 2016 | Women's Golf
SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – Kelly Whaley lost 5 and 4 to Andrea Lee in the first round of match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The rising sophomore got invaluable experience in the tournament placing in the top 64 during stroke play.
Whaley got off to a rough start going down three in the first three holes. Whaley clawed back to just down one after the eighth hole but never earned a hole back afterwards.
Former UNC golfer Allie White rallied in the final round to score a playoff and the eventual win at the Ohio Women's Open. White was four strokes behind the leader heading into the day, but wound up in a tie after posting a 1-under 70. The two went to a playoff where White scored a par to take home the championship.
