September 3, 2016 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Fall on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Much of the scrimmage was situational so there is no official score.
Extra base hits were abundant as the Heels slugged five home runs and five doubles. Freshman Laney Orr belted two home runs, including one in his first at bat in the first. Adam Pate, Kyle Datres and Ike Freeman also added home runs. Cody Roberts, Kyle Datres, Michael Busch, Aaron Greenfield and Jake Holtzapple each had a double.
Carolina used six pitchers - Luca Dalatri and Cole Aker were the starters, while Trevor Gay, Evan Odum, Hansen Butler and Logan Welch threw in relief. Dalatri struck out five batters in 3.0 innings.
The Tar Heels will hold their next closed scrimmage on Sunday. GoHeels will have exclusive coverage of all of Carolina's Fall scrimmages.
