CHAPEL HILL - Twin brothers Tucker and Walker Hume scored all three goals for No. 2 North Carolina in a 3-2 victory over VCU on Monday evening from Fetzer Field.

North Carolina (3-0) scored its earliest goal of the young season in the fifth minute. Nico Melo's corner kick skimmed the head of Zach Wright, and the ball continued across the goal and Walker Hume headed home his first goal of the season.

Melo earned his team-leading third assist on the play.

VCU (0-3) rallied in a big way with a pair of goals midway through the first half that came in a span of 69 seconds to take a 2-1 lead, forcing the Tar Heels to play from behind for the first time in 2016.

The advantage held up for just over 10 minutes, before super substitution Tucker Hume matched his twin brother's earlier goal with a no-doubt-about-it smash in the 31st minute to knot a wild opening half at 2-2. Wright earned his second assist of the match on the equalizer.

After a fast-paced first half, the Tar Heels played a lot of possession in the second frame that slowed the number of scoring chances for both teams. VCU had a shot slide just wide in the 74th minute that would have give the visitors the lead for a second time in the match.

A bad giveaway by VCU deep in its own end fell to the foot of Tucker Hume and he slotted a ball into the lower-left corner for his second tally of the game in the 82nd minute that turned out to be the game winner.

Carolina keeper James Pyle came up with one more big save later in the match to keep his club in the lead, and give Carolina momentum leading into Friday's match, the ACC opener at Clemson at 7:30 p.m.
