2017 Football Schedule Released

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seven home games, including contests with California, Louisville, Duke and Notre Dame in the first half of the season, highlight the 2017 North Carolina football schedule, announced Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Tar Heels also play a Thursday night game at Pittsburgh for the second time in the last three years, and face rival NC State in the regular-season finale for the third consecutive season.
Carolina opens the 2017 slate against California on Sept. 2 in the first game of a home-and-home series between the two institutions. UNC will complete the series in 2018 with a trip to Berkeley on Sept. 1. This is the first meeting on the gridiron between the two schools and is Carolina's second-straight game against a Pac-12 school. Carolina finished the 2016 season vs. Stanford in the Sun Bowl.
In week two, Louisville and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson visit Chapel Hill. It marks the first time a reigning Heisman Trophy winner has played the Tar Heels since 1975 when Carolina faced Archie Griffin's Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus.
Following a road game at Old Dominion (Sept. 16), the Tar Heels close out September at home against Duke (Sept. 23) and at Georgia Tech (Sept. 30). The Sept. 23 Duke game is the earliest meeting with the Blue Devils in series history. The earliest previous meeting was Oct. 10, 1925.
UNC opens October playing host to Notre Dame in the Irish's first trip to Chapel Hill since 2008. A week later, the Tar Heels face Virginia in the 122nd renewal of the South's Oldest Rivalry, followed by a trip to Virginia Tech (Oct. 21) and a home game vs. Miami (Oct. 28).
Sandwiched between the Thursday night game at Pitt (Nov. 9) and the final game of the year at NC State (Nov. 25) is a home game with Western Carolina (Nov. 18).
