Blumberg And Kelly In Action At ITA All-American

Sophomore William Blumberg advanced Thursday on the first day of Main Draw play at the ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Blumberg, the No. 4 seed in the draw, beat Florida's Johannes Ingildsen, who had reached the draw through Qualifying, 6-1, 6-1.

Blumberg continues singles play on Friday with a match against Wake Forest's Christian Seraphim. Start time is 10 a.m. Central.

In doubles on Thursday, Blumberg and senior Robert Kelly defeated California's Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura 6-2, 6-4. The Tar Heels, seeded third in the draw, will continue play in the Round of 16 on Friday, facing Oklahoma State's Julian Cash and Maxim Tybar at 2 p.m. Central.

Kelly also played singles Thursday, falling to Florida State's Lucas Poulian in a tough, three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6).

This marks the 13th straight year that the University of Tulsa serves as the official tournament host, and all of the main draw action takes place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Singles quarterfinalists, doubles semifinalists and consolation finalists (singles and doubles) will receive an automatic entry into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Nov. 1-5, held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California, and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California.
