Carolina Shoots Down Presbyterian

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina ran its winning streak to five games with a 91-56 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday night. Tar Heel head coach Sylvia Hatchell picked up career win No. 997 in her pursuit of 1,000 career victories.
Paris Kea had another in a long line of outstanding games with 23 points and seven assists for North Carolina (7-2), while Jamie Cherry added 17 points.
Janelle Bailey, named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday, had 11 points and six rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Jaelynn Murray scored a season-high 10 points and Taylor Koenen grabbed a game-high 10 boards.
Cortney Storey led Presbyterian (1-7) with 23 points, while Janie Miles added 14.
Carolina shot 56.4 percent from the field as its offense clicked both inside and out on Tuesday. The Tar Heels knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers and enjoyed a 36-12 edge in paint points.
Carolina's defense limited the Blue Hose to a mere two points over a span of nine minutes, 21 seconds that bridged the first and second quarters. Murray's bucket at the 5:59 mark put UNC up 25-17 in the second period.
Murray and Bailey combined for seven-straight points that helped jump start a 22-6 run that virtually put the game out of reach for the Blue Hose, who trailed 47-26 at the break.
As the lead dwindled to 17 points, 50-33, Carolina leaned on the three-point shot to grab back momentum. Kea connected on a pair of deep shots and Cherry closed the period with another to give Carolina a 67-41 lead heading to the final quarter.
Sophomore Liz Roberts drained a late three-pointer in the fourth quarter, and UNC would lead by as many as 36 points in the final minutes.
Carolina is back in action Sunday against Furman at 2 p.m.
