Morgan Lane and Khazia Hislop Win EAGL Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Morgan Lane and Khazia Hislop earned weekly honors from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) on Tuesday after phenomenal performances during the Tar Heels' double quad weekend. Lane was named the Gymnast of the Week for the third time in 2017, while Hislop won her third Rookie of the Week honor.
Lane, a junior out of Columbus, Ind., performed exceptionally well for the Tar Heels this weekend, as she continued her streak of 39.000 or better performances to 15 consecutive meets. She won the all-around at NC State with a season-best of 39.325 and took second at Towson after posting a score of 39.300. In the Raleigh quad meet, Lane also took the balance beam title with a career-best matching score of 9.950. Lane also scored a 9.850 on floor, a 9.825 on the bars and a 9.700 on vault. At Towson on Sunday afternoon, Lane won the balance beam title with a score of 9.925, notched a season-best of 9.850 on the vault to place second, had a 9.850 on floor to finish in third, and took 19th on the bars (9.675). Lane is currently ranked second in the nation on the beam with an average score of 9.900.
Hislop competed on the beam and floor at both of the Tar Heels' quad meets this past weekend, helping the Tar Heels to go 6-0 on the weekend. At NC State, she scored a 9.900 on the floor to win the event and scored a 9.800 on beam to finish in fifth place. At the Towson meet two days later, Hislop led the UNC floor exercise effort with a 9.900, which gave UNC a season-high of 49.000 on the event. She also notched a 9.850 on beam to take second place for the Tar Heels. Hislop is ranked first in the EAGL on the floor exercise.
Lane and Hislop, along with the remainder of the UNC gymnastics team, will return to competition on Friday, as the team hosts EAGL rival New Hampshire for a dual meet in Carmichael Arena.
