Carolina Finishes First Spring Event Fourth

Port St. Lucie, Florida – Kelly Whaley and Bryana Nguyen matched each other with 2-over par 74s in the final round of the Central District Invitational on Tuesday. They each finished the tournament at 5-over par and tied for seventh overall. Alice Chen of Furman won the overall title, finishing at 1-under for the tournament.

Carolina finished the tournament where they started the round, in fourth place. The final round was their best as a team as they shot a 9-over par 297 overall. Brynn Walker and Leslie Cloots joined Whaley and Nguyen in also contributing to the team score with a 75 and 74 respectively. Walker finished the tournament tied for 20^th at 9-over par and Cloots finished the tournament in 32^nd and 14-over par.

Rachel Jones shot an 86 on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 63^rd at 26-over par. Lexi Harkins, playing as an individual, finished tied for 20^th at 9-over par.

The team title was won by Furman which played their three rounds at even-par. Second place Memphis, at 23-over, and third place Louisville, at 26-over, separated the Paladins from Carolina, who finished at 32-over. Steady play was the name of the game for Carolina on Tuesday, as they were second overall in the field for pars.

“The team's performance today was stronger,” says coach Jan Mann. “Overall they were more comfortable, had better course management and executed better shots. We still need to improve on putting and shots from 100 yards in. Looking forward to a good week of practice before headed to the Darius Rucker in Hilton Head next week.”

The Central District Invitational was played at the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club.

Carolina's next event will be the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate from March 3^rd-5^th.
