CHAPEL HILL --- Logan Warmoth drove in four runs and hit his second home run of the year as No. 7 North Carolina blanked Winthrop 11-0 Tuesday at Boshamer Stadium. Tyler Baum made his first collegiate start and went 5.2 innings with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Cody Roberts added three hits for the Tar Heels, who are back in action Wednesday against No. 16 St. John's.

Baum and Winthrop's Riley Arnone were both outstanding through four scoreless innings before Carolina (8-0) got to the Eagle bullpen. Dalton Whitaker's balk with the bases loaded in the fifth opened the flood gates, and the Tar Heels put up a five spot in the inning thanks to run-scoring hits from Kyle Datres, Brandon Riley, Roberts and Ashton McGee.

A freshman right-hander from Ocoee, Florida, Baum allowed just three baserunners in his first action as a Tar Heel. He faced just one more than the minimum through five before leaving with two on in the sixth. Austin Bergner got Anthony Paulsen to ground out to end the Winthrop threat.

Warmoth lined a solo shot just inside the left field foul pole to make it 6-0 in the sixth. After another run-scoring balk in the seventh, Warmoth cleared the bases with a three-run double to match a career high with four RBIs. Tyler Lynn capped the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth.

Bergner, Taylor Sugg and Bo Weiss combined for 3.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen to preserve the shutout.

Carolina returns to action Wednesday at 3 p.m. when 7-0 and 16th-ranked St. John's visits Boshamer Stadium.
