John's Island, S.C. –Lexi Harkins lead the way Tuesday afternoon with a 3-under par 69, in the final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational. The round was the best of any Tar Heel player for the entire tournament. The round is also tied for the lowest of Harkins's season thus far.
As a team, Carolina shot a 3-under par 285 to finish at 18-over par for the tournament and in a tie for tenth place. The strong day enabled Carolina to rise four places up the leaderboard, the biggest move of the day for any team.
Junior Bryana Nguyen shot a 1-over par 73 to finish tied for 33rd at 4-over par. Leslie Cloots and Brynn Walker each finished at seven over, which put them in a tie for 43rd place. Sophomore Kelly Whaley had a 3-over par 75, as she recorded a 64th place finish at 12-over overall.
The team title was won for a third consecutive year by sixth ranked Florida at 15-under par. Maria Torres of Florida won the individual medalist title by three shots with a score of 7-under par.
The tournament was played at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek, a par-72, 6,101 yard test.
