Tar Heels Finish Fifth At NCAA Regional

GAINESVILLE, FLA. - North Carolina finished fifth at the NCAA Gainesville Regional gymnastics championships with a score of 194.425. The regional was won by Florida with a 197.125, followed by Georgia (196.775), Missouri (196.100) and Penn State (195.325). Carolina finished ahead of EAGL opponent New Hampshire (194.175).
Carolina started on the floor and scored at 48.800 led by Morgan Lane's 9.850, Madison Nettles 9.775 and Lauren Weisel's 9.750. Lane's score was good for sixth place.
On vault, Carolina posted a 48.775 led by a pair of 9.800s from Nettles and Kaitlynn Hedelund.
Lane (9.725), Nettles (9.700) and Emma Marchese (9.700) led the way on the uneven bars as UNC scored a 48.275.
Finishing the meet on the balance beam, Carolina scored a 48.575 led by Alexis Allen's 9.800 and Khazia Hislop's 9.775.
Nettles finished eighth in the all-around with a 38.975.
Carolina's season ends with its first visit to the NCAA Regionals since 2013.
