No. 2 Carolina Stays Alive Behind Dalatri Gem
June 3, 2017 | Baseball
Tyler Lynn had three hits, including an RBI double, and Cody Roberts added a late two-run double as the Tar Heels survived to face the winner of Saturday's FGCU-Davidson winner's bracket contest. Brett Daniels and Jason Morgan provided two innings of scoreless relief after Dalatri (7-3) departed.
Michigan (42-17) opened the scoring in the second on a towering solo homer off the bat of Drew Lugbauer. But the Wolverines left two on in both the second and third and rarely troubled Dalatri after that.
Michael Hendrickson (6-3) posted four straight scoreless innings to start the game before his control abandoned him in the fifth. Hendrickson hit both Lynn and Roberts to put two on with two out before issuing back-to-back walks to Brian Miller and Logan Warmoth, the latter forcing in the tying run. McGee then singled through the left side on an 0-2 pitch to put Carolina in front for the first time.
UNC (48-13) added three more in the sixth on RBIs from Lynn, Miller and Warmoth to give Dalatri and the Tar Heel bullpen some breathing room. Roberts' double just inside third base capped the scoring in the seventh.
The Tar Heels will face the loser of FGCU-Davidson Sunday at 1 p.m.
