Diamond Heels To Host Highest Ranked Series In Bosh History
April 17, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Diamond Heels prepare for what is being touted as the "biggest series of the year" in the ACC as No. 2 Georgia Tech rolls in to town for a top-3 showdown.
Two of the four teams in the country already at the 30-win mark on the season, the ACC Network rightly picked up two games in this series for their national audience. The history between these two teams has been back and forth with the coin coming up Carolina more often over the last 10 years. UNC holds a 17-10 advantage since 2016 and have won four in a row.Â

DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS
➤ The Heels and Jackets come into this weekend as the No. 3 and No. 2 teams in the weekly D1Baseball Top-25 poll. The battle of juggernauts is the highest ranked series of the 2026 season so far.
➤ For Carolina, it is the first time it has been a part of a top-3 matchup since 2008 when they had two such heavyweight fights. The first was against Florida State in their temporary home in Cary as the Bosh was being remodeled. Both teams ranked No. 2 by various polls, UNC won the sunday rubber match thanks to a Kyle Seager go-ahead RBI single in the seventh.Â
➤ The second in '08 came in Coral Gables against then No. 1 Miami. The No. 2 Heels dropped the opener before rallying to win the next two games and earn the program's first-ever consensus No. 1 ranking.
➤ The only other top-3 series on record came a year earlier in 2007 as No. 2 UNC lost the weekend two games to one against No. 1 FSU in Tallahassee.
➤ With the '08 contests being played in Cary at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, this weekend against GT will be the highest ranked regular season match up in Boshamer Stadium's history.Â
20TH ANNIVERSARY HIGHLIGHT: 2006 TEAM
➤ This weekend Carolina baseball is welcoming back their 2006 team that finished as national runners up with a 54-15 record for a 20th anniversary reunion.
➤ A group that can be credited with starting this modern run of great success for UNC, went 9-2 in the NCAA postseason as they swept the Chapel Hill Regional, Tuscaloosa Super, and their side of the College World Series bracket before ultimately coming one game short of a title against Oregon State.Â
➤ It was the first time Chapel Hill had hosted a regional since 1983.Â
➤ Andrew Miller, who's jersey is now retired, was named National Player of the Year among many other honors for an incredible season that saw him hurl 133 strikeouts, which is still the program record.Â
➤ Miller and Josh Horton earned All-America status while Tim Federowicz was named Freshman All-America.Â
➤ That team is still top-5 in the program's history in batting average (5th, .321), hits (3rd, 785), doubles (5th, 136), saves (4th, 18), and wins (3rd, 54).Â
➤ Seven members of that team ended up playing in the Major Leagues with Andrew Miller and Daniel Bard both being taken as first round picks.Â
GOLDEN GLOBE WINS ACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
➤ The hero of Carolina's 14-inning marathon win against Clemson, true freshman reliever Caden Glauber earned the team with the conference's best ERA their first ACC Pitcher of the Week award of 2026.Â
➤ He entered a tie game on the road in the bottom of the ninth and pitched all the way through the final out of the 14th to help the Heels pick up a crucial victory to even the series.
➤ The Fort Mill, S.C., native, who should still be in his senior year of high school, threw a career-high 6.0 high-leverage, shutout innings with six strikeouts while allowing just five hits and three walks.
➤ He is the first true freshman to claim a weekly award for the program since Jason Decaro did so in 2024. He is also the first underclassman to win one for any team this season.
TAMED THE TIGERS
➤ For the second straight weekend, Carolina came away with an ACC series win despite losing in the first game. It was a reverse sweep for UNC with a 14-inning marathon win on Saturday afternoon before a controlled 12-5 victory on Sunday.Â
➤ It was the first time the road team had claimed a series between the two programs since 2012.
➤ Friday's game was close for the fist half until Clemson four in the fifth to run out to a 9-5 win.Â
➤ Saturday's nearly 5 hour affair was highlighted by a Tyler Howe squeeze bunt that scored two and 6.0 shutout innings from Caden Glauber to finish it.
➤ Sunday was all Heels as a Gavin Gallaher first inning home run got the ball rolling for a season-high in hits (16) as Carolina became the third team in the country to hit 30 wins on the year.Â
