Rose, Pieters Score In 3-1 Win Over Coastal
August 13, 2017 | Men's Soccer
CARY, North Carolina - Freshman Alex Rose scored twice in his collegiate debut, and Jelani Pieters added a goal and an assist in leading North Carolina to a 3-1 victory over Coastal Carolina in an exhibition match Sunday night from WakeMed Soccer Park.
Coastal tallied the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute, but the Tar Heels' response was immediate. Zach Wright found Rose and he slotted home his first of the night just 15 seconds after the Chanticleers scored their goal.
Pieters did well off a delicate feed from Cam Lindley to score in the 58th minute, giving UNC its first lead of the night.
Just under 10 minutes later, Pieters played the role of playmaker as he helped orchestrate a good-looking counter attack that resulted in Rose scoring again in the 67th minute.
Carolina visits South Carolina on Thursday in its final tuneup match. Kick off from Columbia, South Carolina is slated for 7 p.m.
