Annual head shaving events was great success last Saturday.
The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse program staged another successful event to raise funds for the VS Cancer Foundation on Saturday, September 23 in Polk Place in front of Wilson Library as part of Tar Heel Town. The head shaving fundraiser was conducted before the UNC-Duke football game that afternoon.
"What an amazing turnout and experience for the guys this past weekend in front of Wilson Library, " said Tar Heel head coach Joe Breschi who spearheaded the first head shaving endeavor in the fall of 2013.
"We have officially raised over $24,000 in in just five weeks this fall and over $100,000 in five years of teaming up with the VS Cancer foundation," said Breschi. "I am so proud of the team and the players' to help defeat childhood cancer. Also, we welcomed back 2016 national champion midfielder Brett Bedard, who was in the Tar Heel Class of 2017 and is now working full time with VS Cancer.
Brett (Bedard) is a cancer survivor himself and his presence last Saturday sent a fantastic message to the guys about perseverance and being part of a cause. We did some amazing stuff as a unit and it was a great day to be a Tar Heel.
"I want to thank everyone who was a part of the effort. The support was tremendous."
