SERIES WITH NC STATE
Carolina leads 54-21-12 in a series that dates back to 1949. UNC is 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings with the Wolfpack, including a 1-0 win on a goal from Omar Holness in the last matchup in Raleigh on 10/17/14. The two clubs had faced each other every year between 1949 and 2004, before the series was interrupted in 2015 due to the new ACC schedule rotation after Louisville and Syracuse joined the conference. There was a non-conference match scheduled in 2016 but was canceled due to heavy rains.
GOING FOR 100
Head coach Carlos Somoano enters Friday night with 99 career victories in portions of seven seasons in Chapel Hill. His next victory would give Carolina four coaches with 100 career wins, joining Elmar Bolowich (280), Marvin Allen (174) and Anson Dorrance (172).
LAST TIME OUT
Zach Wright and Lucas del Rosario each had a goal and an assist in sending No. 5 North Carolina to a 4-0 victory over Winthrop on Tuesday night from UNCG Soccer Stadium. Jelani Pieters scored just 85 seconds into the match and Giovanni Montesdeoca added a second-half goal for the Tar Heels.
