September 28, 2017 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina softball hosts Georgia and East Carolina this Saturday to begin its six-game fall exhibition season. The Tar Heels will host a round robin event beginning at Noon on Sept. 30, with each team playing against the other two. All fall home games at Anderson Stadium are open to the public and free of charge.
Saturday's round robin begins at Noon with a neutral game between East Carolina and Georgia. The Tar Heels hit the field at approximately 2:30 p.m. to face Georgia, then close out the afternoon with a game against the Lady Pirates at roughly 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 1, UNC hits the road for a single game at nearby Elon at 3:30 p.m. Prior to UNC's game, the Phoenix will face a brand-new Duke squad at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils begin their first season as an NCAA and ACC member this spring.
The Tar Heels take the following weekend off before hosting another set of games on Oct. 13-15. Additionally, Carolina will hold Alumni Weekend on Oct. 27-28, including an "odd years" vs. "even years" alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 28, which is also open to the public.
North Carolina is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, going 40-21 (14-9 ACC) and advancing to both the ACC Championship game and the NCAA Regional Final. The 2017 Tar Heels captured four wins over ranked opponents, all with a team comprised more than half of freshmen. Carolina returns the vast majority of its squad from 2017, while welcoming six freshmen and a junior transfer. Don't miss your first chance to see the 2018 Tar Heels in action this Saturday.
