Carolina JV Beats Mt. Olive, 126-85
January 29, 2018 | JV Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL—Sunday, January 29, 2018, marked the end to a long week for the JV Men's Basketball Team.
It was a full week of practice in which it played three games. To finish the weekend strong, the team took on the Trojans of Mt. Olive on Sunday evening, which was a quick turnaround from their Saturday morning game against Central Carolina Community College.
However, there were no signs of exhaustion or a long week in the game from the Heels. The game started with the Trojans getting the tip and that seemed to be the only thing that went in their favor for the game.
Robbie O'Han started off hot, shooting consecutively 3-3 from the 3 which jumpstarted the Heels building their lead. They reached a 20-point lead in the first 12 minutes of the first half. However, this was just the beginning of the Heels run as they ended up finishing the half with a 60-30 advantage over the Trojans.
O'Han continued to dominate on the floor and ended the night high scorer for the Heels with 23 points. Caleb Ellis was a key player both defensively and offensively, scoring 19 points and contributing 13 rebounds. Devin Dukes and Preston Smith were also large contributors to the Tar Heels off the glass with 7 rebounds each. Joseph Davis III and Byron Nelson were the leading scorers for the Trojans (26 and 21 pts).
The final score of the game was 126-85 maintaining the team's winning streak and making their record 7-0.
