Duo will lead Tar Heels into 2019 campaign
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team has elected its 2019 team captains who will lead the Tar Heels into a new campaign seeking another ACC championship and a return to the NCAA Tournament.
Timmy Kelly, a senior attackman from Lutherville, Md., will serve as one of the team captains. The other will be Justin Anderson, a junior midfielder from Las Vegas, Nev.
Kelly was a key member of the Tar Heels' 2016 NCAA championship team and also of the 2017 ACC championship squad. He attended Calvert Hall High School. In 2018, he played in 13 games as an attackman, starting 11 times despite missing some time at mid-season due to an injury. He was Carolina's third-leading goal scorer last year with 21 and fourth-leading point producer with 28. He also had seven assists, 19 ground balls and scored three man-up goals.
Anderson graduated from Centennial High School in 2014 before serving a two-year Mormon mission in South America. He had a tremendous year on Carolina's ACC championship team in 2017 and was a starter in the first midfield last year in the first 11 games before missing the final three games of the season due to a hand injury. His 2018 totals included 11 starts, 11 games played, 10 goals, 9 assists, 19 points.
