Tar Heels Picked Third In ACC, Maye Named Preseason ACC Player Of The Year

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina men's basketball team is predicted to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings in 2018-19, as voted on by the members of the media in attendance at the league's annual media day, which was held on Wednesday October 24 in Charlotte.

Carolina received 20 of 121 first-place ballots. Duke is the preseason favorite to win the league and received 52 first-place votes. Virginia received 47 first-place votes and is picked second. Syracuse and Clemson also both received one first-place vote.Â

The predicted order of finish is: Duke, Virginia, UNC, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Notre Dame, Miami, Louisville, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh.

Tar Heel senior forward Luke Maye is the media's selection as the ACC Preseason Player of the Year. Maye earned first-team All-ACC and third-team All-America honors as a junior when he averaged 16.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
The preseason All-ACC first team includes Maye, Syracuse's Tyus Battle, Duke's R.J. Barrett, Virginia's Kyle Guy and Boston College's Ky Bowman. Â
