Tar Heel Men's Lacrosse Team To Again Support Vs Cancer Foundation

Head shaving project will take place before Homecoming game
Chapel Hill, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team has partnered with Vs. Cancer again this season to bring awareness to pediatric cancer and raise funds to support the cause. The fundraiser is lasting throughout the fall ball season, but the team will celebrate their efforts on Saturday, November 3rd at 10 a.m. on the main quad where they will participate in a "head-shaving" to show solidarity with those children who are living with the side effects of their cancer treatment.
In partnership with Vs. Cancer, the Tar Heels have chosen to fund ground-breaking research and child life programs at UNC Lineberger Cancer Center. Over the years, the men's lacrosse program has been the top fundraising program in men's lacrosse. This year alone they have already raised $20,000 and been an influential force in helping the Lacrosse Vs.Cancer Campaign reach the $100,000 mark this fall.
Tom Carmean, Campaign Manager for Vs. Cancer, understands how vital these athletes are to our mission. "We are so amazed by and grateful for the tireless efforts of the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team. They are helping us care for families, pave the way for better treatments and fight to find a cure. Â With the support of this incredible team, we're fighting for futures for these kids."
Â
Vs. Cancer was founded in 2012 by Chase Jones, a former collegiate baseball player at the University of North Carolina. Jones was diagnosed with a brain tumor as a freshman. The support of his teammates and this entire program during treatment was his largest source of strength during recovery. Vs. Cancer now works with athletic teams across the country who have joined the fight against childhood cancer. With the help of athletes, teams, and communities nationwide, Vs. Cancer has raised over $4.2 million dollars since their inception and is now a signature fundraising campaign for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.Â
