GREENSBORO—North Carolina's Cameron Johnson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, while Boston College's Wynston Tabbs earned Freshman of the Week accolades.
ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and are announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Johnson scored a season-high 25 points to lead all scorers in UNC's 103-90 win over fourth-ranked Gonzaga. Johnson tied his career high with six 3-pointers (it marked the fifth time he has connected of six shots from 3-point range). It was the fifth time in 10 games this season the Moon Township, Pennsylvania, grad student has led UNC in scoring. It was his third 20-point game of the year and 12th of his career. The 25 points were the second most in his career.
Johnson was 8-of-12 from the floor, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free- throw line. He also had four assists. Johnson scored 13 of his 25 points in the first half as the Tar Heels built a 53-39 lead, then added a dozen more in the second half.
