Hot Shooting Lifts Maine Over UNC

CHAPEL HILL - Blanca Millan scored 21 points and Maine knocked down 16 three-pointers to top North Carolina, 85-73, on Sunday from Carmichael Arena.
Janelle Bailey led North Carolina (5-4) with 21 points and 10 rebounds to register her fourth double-double of the season and 17th in her career. Stephanie Watts had 16 points behind a 4-of-10 performance from distance, while Paris Kea added 10.
Maine (5-2) recorded its first win in five tries against the Tar Heels with a balanced attack that saw five of its players score in double figures. Tanesha Sutton contributed 17 points and eight rebounds, while Dor Saar and Parise Rossignol had 15 and 14 points, respectively. Kelly Fogarty tossed in 12 points off the bench.
The game was tied 18-18 after 10 minutes of action. Bailey put the Tar Heels in the lead for the first time, 20-18, to begin the second quarter. UNC led by as many as three, 25-22, after a Shayla Bennett triple, but Maine responded with a 22-7 run to take a 44-32 lead into halftime.
Maine led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
UNC hosts UNCW on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
