Comsia and Pineda Earn All-America Honors

Chapel Hill -- Senior defender Alex Comsia and junior midfielder Mauricio Pineda were both named All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday evening. Comsia earned first team honors while Pineda was named to the second team.
Comsia, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, was named ACC Defender of the Year after leading the Tar Heels to one of the best defenses in the country. A three-team All-ACC member, Comsia was tied for third on the team in minutes and is also a Senior CLASS Award finalist and MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist. The senior defender also excels in the classroom as he was also recently an Academic All-American by CoSIDA.
Pineda, a first-team All-ACC selection, anchored the midfield for the Tar Heels and finished fourth on team with 14 points. His five goals and four assists were both career highs as he was tied for third on the team in minutes played. The midfielder has 12 goals and six assists in his Tar Heel career and was also recognized on the ACC All-Freshman team and TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI First Team in 2016.
This makes 16 All-American selections among 13 different players in Somoano's eight years as head coach of the Tar Heels.
